About the role

We are looking for a Supported Internship Trainer to join Discovery, working as part of our Supported Internship Programme in partnership with Somerset Skills and Learning (SS&L).

This rewarding role supports young adults with a learning disability and/or autism to develop the skills, confidence and experience they need to move towards paid employment. Interns are recruited jointly by SS&L and Discovery and start the programme each September, aligned to the academic year. As a result, this role is predominantly term-time only, offering an excellent work–life balance.

Based across Bath and Frome, you will deliver one-to-one and small-group support to interns during their workplace rotations, enabling them to build competitive, marketable skills in real work environments.

Key responsibilities

As a Supported Internship Trainer, you will:

  • Provide individualised, on-the-job support to interns within workplace settings
  • Use Systematic Instruction to break down tasks and support skill development
  • Complete task analysis to ensure interns can work productively and to a high standard
  • Support the development of natural supports within the workplace
  • Identify and implement reasonable adjustments and assistive technology
  • Contribute to and complete Vocational Profiles, matching intern strengths to job tasks
  • Work closely with SS&L tutors, employers, mentors, families and Discovery colleagues
  • Provide guidance and training to employers, co-workers and families as needed
  • Support interns to progress towards sustainable paid employment outcomes

About you

You will:

  • Have experience supporting people with a learning disability and/or autism
  • Be confident working within community and workplace environments
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Be organised, patient and able to adapt your approach to individual needs
  • Be committed to Discovery’s values of inclusion, choice, dignity and opportunity
  • Have access to a vehicle, as travel to homes and businesses is required
