About Discovery

At Discovery, we’re proud to support people across Somerset and Cornwall to live the lives they choose. When you join us, you’re becoming part of a caring, committed team that puts people first in everything we do. You’ll make a real difference every day, and we’ll support you with excellent training, development opportunities and a wide range of colleague benefits to help you grow.

There’s no “typical” Support Worker here — our teams are made up of people of all ages, backgrounds and life experiences. Whether you’re new to care, changing careers or bringing years of experience, you’ll be welcomed and valued.

What brings us all together is a shared passion for helping people live well, learn new skills and build independence. Our Support Workers don’t see their role as just a job — it’s the chance to brighten someone’s day, champion their choices and be part of moments that truly matter

About the role

Welcome to Green House — a vibrant, friendly home where no two days are ever the same. Here, you’ll support six amazing adults aged 40–60, each with their own interests, sense of humour and unique personalities. The people you’ll support have a range of needs including epilepsy, Down’s syndrome and autism, and they appreciate patient, kind and enthusiastic support with all aspects of daily living. Four people use wheelchairs and require hoisting, and you’ll play a key part in helping everyone feel comfortable, included and supported.

Life at Green House is full of fun and meaningful experiences. You might be joining someone for hydrotherapy in the pool (You'll need to feel comfortable supporting in the pool), supporting a gentleman on his electric-assist bike, or visiting the goats and chickens during animal therapy. Others love discos, local theatre shows, cheering on the local football club, supporting someone to church, and holidays to places like Centre Parcs.

You’ll be part of a warm, supportive team focused on active support, meal preparation, day-to-day living, and helping people make the most of every day

Shifts run between 7am and 10pm, plus 1 sleep In per week and alternate weekends

About you

To thrive as a Support Worker in this home, you will be someone who is compassionate, reliable, and genuinely motivated to make a positive difference in people’s lives. You don’t need previous experience in social care, but you do need the right values, the willingness to learn, and the confidence to support individuals to live the life they choose.

You’ll bring strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with the people you support, their families, and your colleagues. A good Support Worker here is patient, calm under pressure, and able to adapt to different situations with empathy and professionalism. You’ll also be proactive, observant, and comfortable encouraging people to develop their independence and try new things.

Basic IT skills are important, as you’ll use digital systems for recording notes, completing training, and staying connected as part of the team. You’ll show a commitment to your own learning and development, embracing the training we provide to ensure you feel confident and equipped in your role.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who brings positivity, kindness, and respect to every interaction, helping create a safe, supportive, and happy environment for the people who live here.
