We’re all here to make a positive difference to people with learning disabilities and/or autism in Somerset. Here at Discovery we are looking for dedicated individuals to join our Support Worker team in Cannington, Bridgwater.

Discovery exists to help each person we support to live a fulfilling life, to be equal in society and to be active in his or her local community. That’s a big deal. It means being able to have choice and control in life. It means choosing to go out or to stay in, making friends and having relationships, finding and developing skills and interests. It also means managing a home, voting, staying healthy and being able to pursue employment or volunteering opportunities. If you think you can help the people we support get more from life, we want to hear from you.

About the role:

The Old Vicarage is a residential home based in the village location of Cannington, just outside of Bridgwater. It is home to two individuals who have great personalities, a love of music, learning disabilities and complex needs. Both people enjoy interacting with those around them and their local community. The home is always busy with activities taking place, such as cooking, crafting and gardening. Each day is varied and support is provided in line with our core values of Ambition, Courage, Integrity, Partnership and Respect.
We are currently looking for a support worker to join the established and welcoming team, working one waking night shift a week. Your shift would start at 22:00 and end at 07:00. There will also be opportunities for overtime, covering annual leave or even day shifts if this is something you may be interested in.
There is no such thing as a normal or average day, however during your working hours you would be responsible for supporting individuals with person centred evening routines, including providing personal care, emotional support and administering medication as required during the night. You would also help prepare the home for the next day, carrying out household tasks such as laundry, cleaning and food preparation.

Why join us?

  • 1 waking night per week
  • 9.00 per hour, £9.90 per hour (nights), £30.50 per sleep in.
  • 30 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
  • Travel allowance for some services – discussed at interview if applicable.
  • Supported ‘Learn to Drive’ scheme (up to 30 driving lessons, 1 theory/practical test - all paid for by us)
  • A 24 Hour Employee Assistance Programme for you and your family members.
  • Long Service Awards, Life Assurance and Pension scheme
  • Great Induction and training opportunities including the Care Certificate, and Diploma in Health & Social Care.
