Support Worker - Supported Living
Here at Discovery we are looking for dedicated individuals to join our Support Worker team at Newholme in Ruishton, Taunton.
While experience is welcome you don’t need to have any to be a Support Worker as we can give you the training and knowledge you’ll need. What you will need to have is a great attitude and be passionate about improving the lives of the people we support.
Discovery is a not-for-profit organisation that supports around 900 individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs with the aim to make a real difference. We are driven by our values. People with learning disabilities and their families are at the heart of everything we do and we want every person we support to have a great life, with excellent outcomes.
About the role:
Newholme is a residential service that is currently supporting a diverse group of 8 people, with a range of learning and physical disabilities. We are at the beginning of an exciting transformation into a new way of supporting the people who live here and so we are looking for people to join our team of Support Workers who share our values and want to enable the people we support to have a great life.
Newholme is set in a quiet neighbourhood, with a large outdoor area with space for seating, activities and some gardening. Inside the building, each person we support has their own room which has been decorated with their input.
As a Support Worker in our team you will be working with the people we support to go about their daily lives. You’ll help those we support get washed and dressed, eat and drink anything else that they may need your support with. You’ll also help the people we support keep in touch with family and friends, pursue their hobbies and go out for fun days out, such as to the beach.
We are very supportive at Newholme not just of the people who live here, but also of the team who work here. When you start you will have regular one to ones with your manager to make sure you are settling in well, and this will continue to make sure that you are happy with what you are learning about the role.
Benefits and rewards:
In return for your hard work you will receive:
- £9.00 per hour, £9.90 for waking nights.
- Full time, part time, and relief work available.
- 22 days’ annual leave entitlement (plus bank holidays)
- Supported ‘Learn to Drive’ scheme (up to 10 driving lessons paid for by us)
- Pension scheme
- Long Service Awards
- Life Assurance

We will also train you to the high standards set by the Care Quality Commision, and at the end of your training you will recieve the Care Certificate, which opens many career opportunities for you as a Support Worker.
