Support Worker - Social Care

Here at Discovery we are looking for dedicated individuals to join our Support Worker team at The Old Farmhouse in Chard.

You don’t need to have any previous experience to be a Support Worker as we can give you the training and knowledge you’ll need. What you will need to have is a great attitude and be passionate about improving the lives of the people we support.

Discovery is a not-for-profit organisation that supports around 900 individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs with the aim to make a real difference. We are driven by our values. People with learning disabilities and their families are at the heart of everything we do and we want every person we support to have a great life, with excellent outcomes.

About the role:

The Old Farmhouse is a residential service currently split into different flats to support the 6 individuals who live here. The people we support here are a mixed group of men and women, who have multiple learning disabilities and Autism, and we provide one to one support both in their homes and out in the community, going on day trips and visits to local places of interest.

One of the great parts of being a Support Worker at The Old Farmhouse is the fantastic relationships that you will be able to build with the people you support over time, and while slow to build it is an amazing feeling to see someone’s face light up when you start your day supporting them.

As a Support Worker in our team you will be working with the people we support to go about their daily lives. You’ll help those we support get washed and dressed, eat and drink anything else that they may need your support with. You’ll also help the people we support keep in touch with family and friends, pursue their hobbies and go out for fun days out, such as to the beach.

We are very supportive at The Old Farmhouse, not just of the people who live here, but also of the team who work here. When you start you will have regular one to ones with your manager to make sure you are settling in well, and this will continue to make sure that you are happy with what you are learning about the role.

Benefits and rewards:

In return for your hard work you will receive:

  • £9.00 per hour, £9.90 for waking nights.
  • Full time, part time, and relief work available.
  • 22 days’ annual leave entitlement (plus bank holidays)
  • Supported ‘Learn to Drive’ scheme (up to 10 driving lessons paid for by us)
  • Pension scheme
  • Long Service Awards
  • Life Assurance
  • Great Induction and training

We will also train you to the high standards set by the Care Quality Commision, and at the end of your training you will recieve the Care Certificate, which opens many career opportunities for you as a Support Worker.
